Iran winter squash. This very rare winter squash was not available here in the USA until the 1940s and its very easy to grow. And colorful some folks use it as a jack o lantern. This squash comes from the middle east. Part of the world. Hence the name iran. Under the right conditions you will get some 40 pounders. But on average will be in the 20.pound range will do great at fall displays because how rare this squash is will store for a long time. You will have a few. The following spring. You can even use these as jack o latern.
If starting indoors, sow seeds 1/2 inch deep in small, individual peat post, 2 seeds per pot. Thin to the strongest plant once the seedlings have developed their first set of true leaves. Transplant outdoors once soil temperatures are 60°F or higher by planting the seedlings in a location with full sun and rich soil. Space plants 8 to 10 feet apart in rows 10 to 12 feet apart.
Drought in heat tolerant. If stored in a cool, dark location the fruits will keep for well over a year.
