Veggie Recommendations For Winter Gardens
Share
Hey Guys,
I hope you're all doing well.
This is the final part of this mini series and this time we're turning our attention to winter gardens.
Winter is not a time where most people think of planting veggie gardens, as the temperature starts to drop, most people start thinking of heading indoors and hibernating for the colder months.
But fresh produce is possible to grow all year round.
Here are some of my veggie recommendations for a winter garden:
1: Turnips: Turnips grow in spring or fall but sowing in late summer often gives you a much better taste at the end. Turnips can survive in temperatures as low as 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
2: Mustard Greens: Mustard greens can last through frost and several degree above freezing in your vegetable garden.
3: Bok Choy: Bok Choy and other Asian greens are good options for mild climates.
4: Arugula: Sow arugula seeds late fall for best winter garden results. Arugula does quite well in the cold. It will tolerate frost and moderate freezes but it will need protection from harsh weather.
5: Rutabagas: When exposed to light frosts Rutabaga can actually taste sweeter so don't overlook these veggies when it comes to your winter garden.
One of the most important things to consider when planting your garden is to prioritise the veggies that you and your family will actually enjoy growing and eating. The above examples are merely a guide. Your garden is your choice, do what feels right for you.
Thank you for reading,
Until next time,
Kim.
