Veggie Recommendations For A Fall Garden
Share
Hey Guys,
I hope you're all doing well.
This is the third part of a mini series that I've been working on looking at the different veggie recommendations to plant at different times of year. This time around we'll be looking at a Fall garden.
Fall gardens are versatile and can accommodate a wide range of vegetables.
Here are my recommendations for Fall:
1: Broccoli: Broccoli loves the cool weather of fall, producing tight, green heads filled with vitamins.
2: Cabbage: Cabbage varieties like green, red, and savoy cabbage thrive in the fall garden and are perfect for slaws and stews.
3: Kale: Kale is a cold-hardy superfood that becomes sweeter after a light frost.
4: Spinach: Spinach generates quickly after harvesting, providing a continuous supply throughout the season.
5: Turnips: Turnips are a versatile root vegetable that can be roasted, mashed and added to soups and stews.
6: Swiss Chard: Swiss chard comes in a range of colourful varieties and is both nutritious and beautiful in the fall garden.
7: Brussels Sprouts: Brussels sprouts produce small cabbage-like heads that become sweeter with frost.
8: Pumpkins: Not many vegetables say "Fall" like pumpkins do. Pumpkins really are a fall time favourite. Pumpkins come in a huge range of colours and sizes. The opportunities really are endless when it comes to pumpkins.
9: Winter Squash: Winter squash is best started indoors as seeds and put out into the garden at around mid-summer but they should never be overlooked and deserve their rightful place in your fall garden.
10: Parsnips: These root veggies should be planted directly into the ground. They can be slow to germinate. Dig them out of the ground before the ground freezes and they'll keep in the refrigerator through the winter.
One of the most important things to consider when planting your garden is to prioritise the veggies that you and your family will actually enjoy growing and eating. The above examples are merely a guide. Your garden is your choice, do what feels right for you.
Thank you for reading,
until next time,
Kim
