No Farmers? No Food!: How You Can Help

No Farmers? No Food!: How You Can Help

Hey Guys,
I hope everyone is doing well.
I spoke a little about the worsening situation for farming here in the UK. It's no secret by now that the future looks bleak at best and non-existent at worse.
We cannot allow the future of agriculture which is the backbone of so many people's lives, it's so much more than a 9-5 job, it's a way of life. Farming has been around for centuries and it would be an utter tragedy if all those years of knowledge passed down from one hard-working generation f farmers to the next would go to waste.
I'm fully aware that the plight of farmer's is not exclusively a British issue, there's problems for farmers all across this big blue marble, I'm mainly focusing on the UK because that's what I'm most familiar with, so no matter where you are in the world... there are ways you can help.
One of the best ways you can help small family farms is to get in touch with those in your local area to see if there is a way you can purchase fresh produce from the farm directly. This is hugely beneficial on many levels as it means if you're buying direct, there's less need for the produce to be shipped, which is a much more beneficial option for the environment as it reduces greenhouse gasses associated with transportation.
Buying directly from farms is also hugely beneficial to the family involved in running the farm, as its so much more than a simple livelihood for the families, it's their way of life, their income, their heritage...
Working on a farm is incredibly difficult, long hours in all types of weather. Farmers cannot take a day off because of bad weather, they're there from dawn until dusk, some days even working into the dead of the night... and they need our support now more than ever.
For as hard as working on a farm is... its also incredibly rewarding, with moments of sheer magic that most don't ever get to witness such as the very first moments of a newborn farm animal's life.
I will continue to explore these issues and raise awareness for the plight of farmers all across the globe.
For now,
Thank you for reading,
Until next time,
Kim
