How To Prepare Your Garden For Autumn (Part One)

Hey Guys,
I hope everyone is doing well.

This is the next part of our mini-series for this week where we've been looking at how to prepare your garden for various times of the year.

Today's focus is all about autumn, or the fall depending on what part of the world you're living in.

Autumn is the time of year when most of us are looking forward to cosying up indoors because the weather is getting colder and colder... but before we head indoors, there's work to be done in the garden....

So let's dive right in:

1: Clean Up Your Vegetable Garden: Autumn is the time of year when there's an abundance of fallen leaves, which can make your garden look a little messy and when autumn comes around, it's the time when crops and plants begin to wither and die. So these all need to be cleaned up. There's an upside to all of this hard work... All of the dead and decaying organic matter from your garden can be put to use as a great source of mulch for the new growing season the following year.
2: Clean Up Your Tools: This is an important step that shouldn't be overlooked because cleaning your tools at the end of the growing season will keep them in a good condition, which will make things so much easier for you once the new growing season arrives in the spring.
3: Bring Vulnerable Plants Indoors: As the weather turns colder, now is the perfect time to bring any of your plants that are vulnerable to frost and won't survive being left out in the garden during the winter... bring them inside, otherwise you risk losing them entirely.
4: Clear Debris: Whether it's fallen fruit around a tree or foliage from roses, now is the perfect time to remove it. The reason for this is that it's a perfect way to discourage disease and ensure that sunlight is getting through to the grass or plants below.
5: Replenish Your Bird Feeders: With the changing of the seasons, it gets so much harder for wildlife around us to find enough food for the winter. So as part of your garden preparation during the fall, it's good to give them a little helping hand by replenishing any animal feeders you may have in your garden such as bird feeders, make sure they have a steady supply of food during the colder months, they'll bring colourful visits to your garden in return.

This is the first part to preparing your garden for autumn,
the next part will be coming up shortly.

Thank you for reading,
until next time,
Kim
