Benefits Of Companion Planting
Share
Hey Guys,
I hope you're all doing well.
For today's blog post I just wanted to talk a little more about companion planting.
Companion planting has been used in gardening for a long time and companion planting simply means planting certain plants together to either deter pests or help with growth.
When it comes to companion planting, one of the benefits would be that it makes your garden look pretty, companion planting attract beneficial insects while other pairings can fix nitrogen issues with your soil.
Another benefit of companion planting is to shade smaller plants from extreme heats by planting them alongside taller plants, another benefit of companion planting would be weed suppression.
Planting flowers like marigolds, nasturtiums and calendula throughout your garden can attract beneficial insects like ladybugs, who are predator insects, which acts as pest control against harmful pests, and bees, which help pollinate your crops.
Also, if you plant a lot of herbs such as rosemary, thyme and sage, they are natural pest repellents. So plant them in between your crops to keep your veggies healthy and pest-free!
Another benefit of companion planting would be that companion planting can eliminate the need for trellises. There are are many tall plants which can be used in companion planting such as sunflowers and Jerusalem artichokes.
This is just a simple starting point to the benefits of companion planting, I will be revisiting this topic many times again in the future of this blog :)
Thank you for reading,
until next time,
Kim
